Parish Priest: Fr Greg McGregor
I thought that I would take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know where I come from. I was born in Sydney and am the son of Maggie and Kieran who now live down the South Coast. I am the eldest of three boys having two brothers Matt and Tim. I was part of a Naval family growing up so we lived all over Australia but we had a family home in Sylvania.
I entered the Seminary at St Patrick’s Manly in 1995 and then moved to the Seminary of the Good Shepherd at Homebush the following year.
I was ordained to the diaconate at Kingsgrove Parish in 2001 and was ordained to the priesthood in April 2002. My first appointment as a priest was to Liverpool Parish. Late 2004 I was sent on loan to Tasmania for six months where I was administrator at the Parish of Central Tasmania.
In 2005 I returned to Sydney as assistant priest at Mortlake Parish. Late 2006 I joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Chaplain and commenced full time service in 2007. I had postings at HMAS Waterhen in Sydney, HMAS Cerberus in Victoria, The RAN Recruit School, HMAS Melbourne where I deployed to the middle east in 2010-11. HMAS Perth where I deployed to the Mid Pacific and HMAS Success. In 2012 I was posted to HMAS Creswell in Jervis Bay where I did a lot of work with the Royal Australian Naval College. I discharged from the RAN in 2013 and was asked to go to St Gabriel’s at Bexley. I spent six months at St Gabriel’s before being appointed as Parish Priest of All Hallows Five Dock where I ministered for 4 years. At the end of April 2018 I was appointed Parish Priest here at Immaculate Heart of Mary Sefton and also Administrator of Sacred Heart Villawood Parish. I hope that my time here will be a time of grace, peace and blessing to all of us in this community.
Please come and say hello if you see me around and I look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can. I’ve felt very grateful already for the support of so many people here who have made it easy to settle in and am very grateful for so much hard work I see going on. In my spare time I love sailing, fishing and cricket.
